Actually, I believe I said 10% correction OR 20% Bull market. Anyhow, we get each other's point.

    Could Apple buy Ford?

You can buy a useful apple device for under 1k, or you can buy a "lemon" for 20k!

I've been getting bitten a lot recently. Dug deeply into the markets just before the Friday crash. Wrong side of Brexit in my currency trading. Made a complete idiot out of myself ... so far...on my 1%\day average call on USDCAD. Sigh! :banghead::banghead:

Ha ha! I'm only teasing you. I'm kicking myself too because I sold too soon and lost out on some profit.

The market conditions are similar to 1999

Anyhow, hope you're right as I am heavily long S&P and Nasdaq with TQQQ, QQQ, XSP.TO, VOO.

I suspect you're quite right about the coming rough ride. However, to create a thread like this without providing any kind of justification is, to say the least, quite absurd!

The market conditions are similar to 1999

What's interesting to me is the belief that the current markets condition is irrational. We only very recently pushed above the tops created in 2000 crisis and the 2008 crisis. The market has produced an absolutely horrible return since the peak in in the 2000 crisis. Those who bought at the...

I would also like to acknowledge that for the briefest period prices in the 2008 bear did return to prices in the 2000 bear. It can happen, but shouldn't be relied.

You may be right, but I believe that over the last few years we did go through a doubling without ever reverting back into bear territory.

Ok, fine. However, do you see my point? The market could double and never correct back down to your preferred buying price.

Of course the market will correct. That is certainly a given. What I mean is that for any given price P, of an interesting stock S, at a time T when you have cash, you have no way to be certain that S will produce a p < P, after T. You only have a probability greater than 0 where you alone...

There are exceptions to every rule. There are even exceptions to the rule I just stated in the last sentence. I think a big chunk of the ET populations sits there waiting for that exception - the next Black Swan etc. Anyhow, nice recovery today. 2/3 of my losses on Friday were recovered.

I don't agree with that. You have no meaningful way to be certain that the market will correct in any meaningful way. The basic premise of your statement depends on one very important detail: At any given time that you acquire cash, the price of an interesting stock will eventually be lower...

South? Yes, the USA markets are definitely going to be the ones to start performing now after 20 months of rather neutral behaviour. We (Canadians) are definitely going south. :D

I think there were one or two who were suggesting a big rebound or further collapse. Anyhow, its kind of beside the point who specifically made the call. On ET it is reasonable to suggest that some were bullish about today, some were bearish and some were neutral. As of this morning, it looks...

Actually, the timing of Friday's crash was rather amusing in my case. I had a bunch more cash sitting on the sidelines, and on Thursday, I finally decided to jump into a few ETFs and a couple of stocks, tired of watching it going up while I sat on the sidelines. Murphy's law. Boom! Down she...

I have such a small position in it ( 50 shares), and a bunch of cash and margin on reserve to deal with a crashing market. I think I'll just hold for now.

Surprisingly boring day today so far. Neither the bears nor the bulls on Elitetrader called Monday correctly. At least, my positions in apple and TQQQ are enjoying a bit of a recovery.

Wow, you're right. I scanned through the historical data on yahoo finance. I obviously missed that. As for the high, I was not counting that because you made your original statement about the 220% after Friday's correction. Anyhow, the historical average annual returns are really not...
