TA: Parameters will make or break a situation

Not customized, but just price movement that indicates the probable success or failure of the technical indication in question. New to those experienced in TA, no. But just as it was new to the guy in Starbucks,. I hoped that just explaining that such parameters exist and can improve...

TA: Parameters will make or break a situation

I would hope that the readers with little experience in TA would not just take a technical indication at face value, but would devote some study into the various parameters that can be used to qualify the technical indication, which should lead to improved performance.

TA: Parameters will make or break a situation

No, you just have to work at it. Sorry for having used such a dirty 4 letter word! The purpose of starting the thread was, as had occurred with the guy at Starbucks, to enlighten those not so experienced in TA to the importance of taking parameters into consideration when basing trades on TA...

Discretionary vs Mechanical Trading Benefits and cons?

But having all the information in the world does not insure that the algo's entry will be correct or better than that made by the human.

Discretionary vs Mechanical Trading Benefits and cons?

When the algos, AI etc, can buy at the exact start of a trend and sell at the very top, I'll concede defeat. But until that day, I ask, how can they do any better than enter early in a trend and exit near the end of that trend, which (some) humans have been doing since markets began.

TA: Parameters will make or break a situation

No, not the pattern as a whole, even though you could have a parameter within a pattern. I was talking about parameters that qualify or disqualify a technical indication and are usually found before the technical indication, but can be found following the indication too.

TA: Parameters will make or break a situation

For indicators yes, you can set parameters as you like. But I was talking about parameters found within the price movement itself.

TA: Parameters will make or break a situation

A year or so ago I was in Starbucks looking at some charts. A guy who noticed what I was doing struck up a conversation about trading. He said that he had bought wxyz a few days ago and asked me to look at its chart, which I did knowing that he just wanted to hear someone say that it's going to...

How do you stay ahead of the herd/majority?

IMHO the most significant point is the price movement itself, and not who's buying/selling. And the point of my previous reply was simply that within the herd that buys at/near tops and sells at/near bottoms you can find GS just as well as somebody's Granny (no offense meant to any Grannies out...

Does TA work better or worse on lower or higher time frames?

I wish I hadn't been asleep when this thread began. So I'll just say that our distinguished panel of judges declares the winners to be: Xela Scataphagos

How do you stay ahead of the herd/majority?

Ain't that the truth!! And more so, as soon as they realize that you're not telling them how to make some quick and easy bucks, they start checking their email.

The 'Mother of All Advice' list!

Listen to the market, but don't hear what it ain't sayin'!

How do you stay ahead of the herd/majority?

It can be one or many big traders getting it wrong at the top and buying, just as there are one or many getting it right and selling. If you think that all big traders always get it right, you might want to rethink that! But in any event I do not consider or attach any importance as to who is...

How do you stay ahead of the herd/majority?

I said big blocks being bought, not sold,at tops, and likewise large blocks being sold at bottoms. These blocks can be identified in T&S.

How many higher highs/lower lows then is considered a trend?

You might want to go through this thread and focus on the counter arguments. https://www.elitetrader.com/et/threads/the-trend-is-your-friend-the-biggest-lie-ever.295480/ It might not answer your question directly, but you might find it informative regarding trends.

How many higher highs/lower lows then is considered a trend?

That's certainly an original name for a reversal pattern! I like it!!

How many higher highs/lower lows then is considered a trend?

No, a trend can be established in a single TF.

How many higher highs/lower lows then is considered a trend?

This is a posting I made a few years ago. https://www.elitetrader.com/et/threads/the-trend-is-your-friend-the-biggest-lie-ever.295480/page-5#post-4201408 To me the best definition of a trend and the practical application of trends is best laid out in Dow Theory, but without the confirmation...

How do you stay ahead of the herd/majority?

Everyone seems to define the herd as uninformed, dumb, blind, goofy retail traders. And the institutional guys with their Ph.d's, BB, AI and all the available information that there is in the world right at their finger tips as the Gods of the markets who could do no wrong. But everyday you can...
