    1999 again

You're right. While the indices are overvalued, things are NOTHING like 1999-2000. Not even in the same ballpark. don't know how the OP came up with the analogy

Questions for new trading system purchas

man, your trading computers are faster than my gaming computer. :D My trading computer is a 1Ghz @ 266FSB with 40G hard drive and a very old video card. It has 512M ram. The CPU was considered fast in 2001. I wouldnt be surprised if some modern dishwashers and alarm clocks have more...

So, Just When Was The Best US Economy?

I would agree. The 50's were the best era for the US economy. Construction was booming, housing was affordable, jobs were plentiful (and you didn't even need a HS diploma), and interest rates were lower than even in 2004. 1996-1999 would place second, followed by mid-late 20's.

Do you worry about a 1987-like crash?

Don't be overconfident. The NYSE has circuit breakers at 10%, 20% and 30% which, when breached, would result in temporarily suspended trading or total halting of trading. The circuit breakers are set too high prevent a major one-day crash.

Do you worry about a 1987-like crash?

When I posted my original question, I wasnt trying to suggest that we're due for a 1987 crash anytime soon. I was just asking whether people consider the possibility when they formulate their trading strategies. Or do you feel it's so unlikely that you don't deal with it? imo, the markets...

    Does anybody own a ferrari?

Exactly why he should ask his question on another forum, not here. But I beg to differ about Ferrari being best no question. I prefer Lambo :)

Do you worry about a 1987-like crash?

how do you know when the crash happens? In the week leading up to the 87 crash, the US indices were down big and people thought the crash had already happened. Then the "real" crash happened. People who went in long just before Black Monday would have been crushed. I also want a slow crash...

Do you worry about a 1987-like crash?

How many of you have tested your strategies against a repeat of the 1987 crash? I.e., major indices open down 7% then decline another 15% that day. Or are we all too afraid to contemplate the outcome? :)

    Does anybody own a ferrari?

LOL, did you miss the part about "Reserve not met"?? That car will sell for about 85-90k.

    Does anybody own a ferrari?

67k miles is way too much for any Ferrari. A 1987 should have about 30-40k on it. If you like it, get it, but be prepared for high maintenance costs. If you are getting it as an investment, that's a huge mistake. Only certain models will appreciate, and the 328 is not one of them. I...

    Selling ATM Straddles

Incidently, the short straddle was how Nick Leeson bankrupted Barings Bank in 1995. He wrote a huge position just before the Kobe earthquake. Bad timing... short straddle = good in a sideways non-volatile market. However, we know that such markets don't stay that way

Watched Casino Royale Now I want a Austin Martin

Sounds like a myth. Cars today are so much better engineered than just 20 years ago, nevermind 60 years ago.

    Does Interactivebrokers.com support Give-Up?

lol this was hilarious. Just any mention of the words "IB support" in any context brings out the IB-bashing clan.

If there is going to be a recession then...

Chinese schools have taught english for many years - they didn't just begin. Further, HK grade schools have taught english for decades. Why now would China surpass India in corporate outsourcing? As a matter of fact, many countries teach english (Japan, many places in Europe). Filipino...

    Bye-bye reg T

The other change I see is some traders switching from options on futures to equity/index options. I don't see much reason to trade ES anymore. The commissions are too high.

    Bye-bye reg T

i've been approved since Wednesday. The demo is accurate. However, for certain positions, IB is substantially more strict that OCC TIMS which is the baseline for PM. For instance, some positions only required $1200 on TIMS but $9000 on IB. It's still better than Reg-T though If the demo...

    IB Secure Device

Regarding the API backdoor potential problem. There are other applications that allow third-party (external) software to attach to the application via a public API, but the user can disable the API. Hence, no external apps -- either legitimate or trojans -- would work. Is this possible with...

qcom and qqqq are not correlated, so you cannot use one to hedge the other. You need to find correlated positions

    Bye-bye reg T

Has anyone had any luck with IB's portfolio margin demo? It is very flakey (the market data is coming and going). Or maybe it's because there are 20000 people trying to use it now.

Is google the worst stock ever?

I don't understand. You said the POS never goes up and it's the worst stock, so why are you long? You gave a lot of reasons why you should sell it but you won't take your own advice.
