I use Sierrachart. I trade ES futures only and two charts, one intraday tick chart and one daily chart. I only use one indicator, 20EMA, on the tick chart. On the daily chart, I have 3 moving averages and volume.
I didn't realize that depending on which of the two you are using, you will be looking at different chart info. I'm using TC2000 and I was telling myself SPY broke the 200 simple moving average around 190.50. Then, several traders I follow on twitter twitted that they went long SPY with their...
Option trades are counted as a day trade if they were bought and closed on the same day. In the example mentioned, both were closed the next day so the answer is YES, the example is feasible since the trades will not count as day trades.
I'm looking for a replacement to my old laptop, which I used as backup for my trading and one that is light for travel. I'm thinking of getting an ultrabook based on a friend recommendation because it is light and could be the next generation of portable computers. However, I know little about...
jimc,
Breakout strategies like Ross Hook and TTEs seems to work well when HSI is trending.
However, during sideways action, the whipsaw is terrible because price will trade above the high by a few ticks only to come back quickly and hit a 20-pt. stop. All this in a matter of seconds to a...
I use SierraCharts (sierracharts.com) with IB feed. If I miss any data, I backfill using SCMagic (scmagic.org). For the daily chart, I use the one at futuresource.com - http://www.futuresource.com/charts/charts.jsp?s=HHAZ04&o=&a=D&z=650x450&d=LOW&b=CANDLE&st=EMA%2810%2C20%2C50%29%3BVOI%281%2C1%29%3B
It's been like this since I started monitoring it last year.
One thing I learned is always trade with the trend. A wrong countertrend trade can hurt because if you happen to be in front of a big move, the slippage on your stop could be as much as 20 pts.
Symbol for IB is HSI and the current month is December. The last time I used mytrack, they don't have it available, but check with them if they have it now.
Hi Andy,
I know you trade 10-/30-/60-minute charts. What do you think of 5-minute charts? Is it also suitable for the Ross Hook and 1-2-3 setups or is it more subject to whipsaws?
