Brokerage changes rules and wipes out my account. Is there any recourse?

Around 300 contracts 70% short AUG, 30% short SEPT and Long Feb/MAY/08 and $98K liq. Done over the past 6 months, so I just didn't go in there in the past 3 days trying to get credits. Like I said before it's quite hard to judge your ACTUAL risk when you have these trades in your acct and $0...

Brokerage changes rules and wipes out my account. Is there any recourse?

In hindsight perhaps I was gambling more than trading. But for the past 6 months I was doing debit calendar spreads for a debit and realized there was something quite wrong when my short calls inverted past my long May/08 calls. So as you say, if IB wanted to truly protect itself and all of...

Brokerage changes rules and wipes out my account. Is there any recourse?

Its pretty difficult to gauge the amount of margin that you actually need to trade the VIX as IB platform shows me requiring $0 margin. I even have an end of day margin/risk statement for AUG 9 (day before closing of my account) showing $0 margin required, $ at risk 5k and almost 100K in cash...

Brokerage changes rules and wipes out my account. Is there any recourse?

I guess what's also pi$$ing me off is that in their infinite wisdom IB also opened 50 additional contracts for me, how nice. Only to close them 30min later for a cool couple $1k loss. I look forward to talking with the trading desk on Monday!

Brokerage changes rules and wipes out my account. Is there any recourse?

I agree.. I should have been more knowledgeable about what I was trading, I mean who can you really blame I suppose? My issue was that I had no maintenance margin or initial margin requirements to hold these positions for the past several months. So I thought there would at least be some...

Brokerage changes rules and wipes out my account. Is there any recourse?

Let me know if there is a better forum to post this, but I saw risk management in the title so I thought I would post. Perhaps someone can give some advice? A little background: I was entering Calendar Spreads on the VIX for the past several months. At no time was there any type of margin...

    Low VIX = Groundhog Day

I was wondering if someone could explain how the VIX will adjust as it approaches expiration. Basically what I'm referring to is for example the March 11 Calls are @ $4.1 while the VIX is @ 15.96, when the VIX was @ 18+ the March 11's where still around $5. When the options approach the...

Help newb: cap rate for multi-unit property in LA?

I'm a R/E Agent in Canada, so no insight on LA real estate. But don't get too caught up with CAP rates, use them as a general rule of thumb to quickly short list possible properties. You should take into consideration tenant mix , turnover, vacancy, comparable rentals in area. Eg if its a...

Thanks for the reply Rally, I really didn't know where to look and was getting a bit frustrated. At least this will give me an idea of how close VIX can get to my short before I consider closing/rolling it.

rallymode provided this: http://cboe.com/DelayedQuote/Simple...aspx?ticker=vro or you can go to: http://www.888options.com/quotes/default.jsp As you can see the info isn't exactly the most easily accessible. If you can find any previous months VRO quote that would be impressive!

    Calendar Spreads

VIX questions here: Are there any members that have been trading the VIX for several months to see what the VIX closing price is vs the VRO? How much of a spread is there between the two on average? Considering that VIX (JUL Exp) was at 17.74 and VRO was 17.01. I'm finding it difficult to...

    Calendar Spreads

So Rich I see you're trading the VIX? Sorry I was away for a couple of days I thought you were going to start paper.. But some of those premiums look too good to just watch I guess! Also does anyone know where I can get historical VRO quotes? It states a 52 week high of 111.45... this seems...

    Calendar Spreads

You do have to be very careful with these options. The European style really throws a wrench into your plans, so don't be on vacation the first Tuesday prior to Expiry!! You should also be aware of the settlement value (VRO) vs VIX closing value. OX help desk didn't know how to calculate or...
