    Journal of a Novice-Level Speculator

PA, if your only motivation for CFA is for your accounting career, I, as a CFA, would not encourage you for this endeavor. The cost-benefit is not in your favor. Wouldn't you think a CPA is more valuable for an accountant?

    NoDoji's Day Trading Log

NoDoji, I feel your pain. Today should have been a very good day considering the increased vix. On the contrary, I committed the same mistakes similar to yours, and turned a profitable day to a loss. I went to short ES at the wrong time around 1103.5 when suddenly the market found a strong...

    Weinstein Trading and Fading

Hi Robert, I have been reading your posts for several weeks now. You have often mentioned signals like WW, W2, etc. I don't have a clue what you meant and didn't find likely answers from google. If you don't mind, could you elaborate it a little bit? Thanks a lot.

Filing tax return as Trader Status and Mark to Market Election

Kev, as much as I hate to say it, it really depends on your situation. My personal opinion is, for the simple partnership and LLC cases, I will go with DIY, which was the case for me. There is really no need to pay someone else to form the LLC/partnership and obtain the EIN from IRS...

Filing tax return as Trader Status and Mark to Market Election

Well, after a little digging from IRS's website, I think I found the answers to my own question. Internal Revenue Bulletin 1999-7 at www.irs.gov/pub/irs-irbs/irb99-07.pdf (2) New taxpayers. A new taxpayer is a taxpayer for which no federal income tax return was required to be filed for...

Filing tax return as Trader Status and Mark to Market Election

Folks, will appreciate your comments on my situation. I formed an entity and will begin trading in 2010. So for my entity, there is no tax return to file for 2009. My question is how to claim MTM for my entity for 2010? Do I need to send a letter/form to IRS by 4/15/10 to claim MTM? My CPA...

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Response received from my senator Dear Mr. Hgocm: Thank you for your recent letter regarding the Let Wall Street Pay for Wall Street’s Bailout Act of 2009 (H.R. 1068). I appreciate having the benefit of your comments on this important matter. As you know, H.R. 1068 was introduced in...

    Latency: 3G/3.5G

I would not use the wireless card as your primary connection. As a back up will be fine. Wireless, just like cable, is shared by multiple users. The bandwidth (a.k.a, spectrum) is fixed. If you are the only user accessing the network, you get the whole bandwidth. If ten users concurrently...

anyone uses DSL for day trading?

Will you need a back up connection at home? I currently have the 6Mb ATT DSL service at home and have no problem with it running the LightSpeed platform. However, the DSL service went down a couple of times and I suggest get a back up connection at home, assuming you trade actively from home.

I wish the future will play out exactly as you suggested. I live in the US and don't know much about the UK political system. Is there a real chance that the Browns & Company can remain in power after the general election next year?

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Robert, can you please elaborate a little bit about how to form a non-customer broker dealers with the exchanges? I'd like to understand we can do to continue trading viably if the worst scenario happens. Your comments are much appreciated.
