This isnt exactly a trading issue but since there is a lot of computer knowledge on this board I thought Id look for an answer here. Is there a way to turn off those annoying little popups at startup that tell me there are updates available, You dont have antivirus software installed, etc?

Google dealbook360. GFT is the broker and they have a pretty nifty charting package. Everything from 1 sec. on up.

I think it gets harder every year. You get tens of thousands of people trying to play the same little games,patterns, fibs, etc, all of which are well known and quants exploiting every concieveable edge as long as it lasts. Youre story is not uncommon, I believe.

You might consider currencies. It is entirely possible to trade currencies with $500 and get a fairly realistic trial of what you are going to have to deal with when it comes to trading. You can trade $10000 at a time and each pip will only be 10 cents so your $500 will last you quite awhile...

This pair does move at times. The spread usually sucks, tho. Do you just trade off gut feelings?

yeah but..............they do not work the same on all time frames, at least in my short career. The shorter the time frame the less reliable the pattern, imho.

From what Ive seen on this board so far this description fits a lot of people.
