Reasons for failur in automatic trading systems

Acrary's example edge above would be even difficult in some ways for me to trust at that time. If fund flows were to be integrated into the trading system, what about the fact that the largest inflows precede market tops and vice-versa? Maybe he would have faded extreme inflows.

Spydertrader's Jack Hershey Equities Journal II

GS19, thanks for sharing. It seems from reading some of the posts that there is a certain degree of discretionary determination, maybe based on personal preferences as well as the type of methodology used. Am getting that there are multiple approaches Hershey has provided. Thanks.

Spydertrader's Jack Hershey Equities Journal II

some of you may have seen a thread I posted earlier; http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=72895&perpage=40&pagenumber=5 To that end, I'm kinda in a nomadic state (which I dislike immensely, but don't want to force myself to trade when I'm anywhere near of such a mind set)...

Usually, the jobs I've had since out of college have royally sucked. The rare times otherwise have, as you note, ended up crappy. What else is there to do though than to keep plugging away? It's one of the prime motivations I have for doing my own thing. Someday....

bluedemon, your side is well stated too. I've "been there, done that," and I don't like that option either.

I have heard such comments in the past and largely ignored them. I realized that was easily the possible outcome for many, but believed in my ability to be one of the successful ones. At this point, though, it's important to consider more deeply what you're saying (as well as what others have).

toby, you might end up being right (about my being better off doing something else in the end), but I think you should read what I stated more closely. I actually de-emphasized the importance of becoming rich through trading. If it's something one is pursuing for a full-time goal, I would think...

Your comments contrast those from a lot of other posters in that you are confident there are truly good systems but not everyone has the temperament or the timing for following them profitably. It seems then it's just a matter of time before many traders would find a really successful system...

'preciate both of your frankness on this. I am taking it all in, one post at a time. Am in a very reflective mode (and certainly not trading right now). Question: supposedly, Wiliam O'Neil has done extremely well over a very long period of time, and now learned to short stocks instead of...

"In other word, the market doesn't exist for money to be made by non professional traders, it exists only for them to pay to play." That makes total sense, just like with gambling. However, my feeling is there should be way(s) to become consistently and highly profitable if you're good...

and vice-versa, I'd think. I was trying to convey the up side in my comments earlier, but not sure I was clear enough.

that's a good point. If a lot of people pay attention to MA's (eg, they often decide to buy when a stock moves back down toward the 50dma), there is more of a chance for an up move just because it's creed is followed. Perhaps it shouldn't be used to go long as much as it's a wariness point for...

Holy Grail--good stuff from you as well. The longer-term outlook might well be beneficial [though I don't think I'd sit long enough to allow the 50dma to cross the 150d, no offense; but I get where you're coming from. I could adjust those parameters for my temperament]. I would add, though...

Tao, I big-time appreciate all the time and effort you've spent on this thread. I will give it serious consideration. Obviously, the only one who can inevitably decide is me, but I'm taking yours and many other posters' thoughts into the ol' noggin. I am glad I haven't lost money in the...
