There is a great sermon by John MacArthur on why the "prosperity gospel" is actually satanic. Think of it - the devil tempted Jesus three times, offering something material and worldly in a moment of extreme want. Any church that preaches gains in this life for following Jesus is in the same spirit as that original temptation, and is to be avoided!
