What time is EOD for futures?

When you see reports of the daily percentage change on the S&P500 mini , what are the open and close times? My trading platform calculates from midnight to midnight GMT but that is obviously not in line with what the actual time settings are.

The CME Globex website states:
Sunday - Friday 6:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ET)
Trading halt 4:15 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Does this mean that 4:30 p.m ET is the start of the new day?

So daily from 4:30 p.m. to the following day at 4:15 p.m is the calculation range?

Thanks for the reply Robert. So what is the time between 4:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. classified as? That is an hour and a half of nothingness that everyone just ignores?

The exchange is closed from 4:15 until 4:30. Then opens again until 5:00, which is the end of that day's trading session. Closes again until 6:00, which is the start of the new trading day. The closed times are for system maintenance and updating.

Market usually doesn't do much 4:15-6:00... but sometimes it does... like follow through on the day's mo or a reaction to earnings reports/guidance released during that time.

Some symbols allow TAS trades at or near the close between 4:30pm and 5pm. Between 5pm and 6pm the exchanges update margin and set settlement prices in what I call the accounting update period. 6pm is the next trading day. Your FCM will bases your end of day margin based on the information they receive from the exchanges from that accounting period.

Not really. Start of the new day is 6PM ET. The trades from 4:30 PM to 5 PM are included in the daily calculating of the change in % of that trading day.
