pit? With their advantage of being on the floor and seeing order flow, etc. how come only a handful are still around today of the original group?

They scalp for the most part- so risk is minimal compared to off the floor traders. Where did they go? Is there a retirement home for these young turks or what? Why are they all gone?
 
Gone to electronic markets, like GLOBEX, etc. More advantages than disadvantages, IMO.

Times have changed, Richard.
