advances would be the new sophistication of institutional black box systems. these complex programmed systems can play with patterns. they can predict the probability of an emerging pattern and play it early with enough volume so patterns launch early in a big way or fails early or just runs stops. so pattern players these days might get trapped or miss the opt more often - esp in lower time frames . some would argue the surge (since late 90's) of market participants (due to online trading systems) actually sharpens and enhances pattern success - the trader's self fulfilling prophecy. so as long as patterns have a name, folks will play them.
