Lived in CO for 40 years, but now in FL. Every few months there is another request at checkout for $1 for food pantry, round out your total and contribute the change to various charities. What they evidently don't understand in FL is the Walton's and relatives purchased the Denver Broncos for 4 Billion dollars, own the Denver Nuggets, the Avalanche hockey team so evidently in FL they do need my $1 and whatever change is left for charity.
Many stores now do this. This is nice, but hardly motivated by corporate altruism.
Your Walmart donation becomes tax part of Walmart's charitable giving tax deduction, which further increases the corporate earned income tax credit that US tax payer pays to this and other companies year after year.
