Trading from New Zealand

Can anyone give updated info on living costs in NZ?

Also, links about where to find a house (for rent), how to get a living permit, and taxation would be appreciated.

There's some good info here, obviously, there might be other expat forums more specific to where your at.

Like any forum, you have to dig......I gather the Kiwi's are having a heck of a time economically, tourism, some wool and a bit of cheese isn't the best basis for an economy it seem's.
Fantastic if your independent of that though, rentals and housing are being hit hard, so i gather anecdotally.

The much reported recession can't hurt beer though...

Thanks for the info. Trademe seems to be very useful.

NZ is a beautiful country! And cheap too, at least for Europeans at current exchange rates. Good place to escape the ugly winters of the north.

I love NZ. The only problems that I see are:

1. High Asian population which in a country of only 4 million is very noticeable. I do not mind Asian folk but I was not prepared to see so many Asians in kiwi land.

2. Native population - not super friendly to the white folk - maybe they have a reason, I just do not want to be stuck in a South Africa in the late 80's, 20 years down the road.

3. Far away from everything and I mean everything.

Other than that ..... a lovely place.
