Madrid: When Chinese billionaire Jack Ma took a trip to Spain’s Mallorca island last month, much was made of it being his first foreign foray since a 2020 fallout with regulators had clipped his wings.

However, Ma’s sunny sojourn on his newly built 88-metre cruise boat Zen - estimated to be worth $US200 million ($270 million) also put a spotlight on a global trend: the return of the superyacht.

As the number of billionaires grows and COVID-19 added incentives for avoiding crowds, the multibillion-dollar global luxury boat industry is rebounding fast after near-paralysis at the onset of the pandemic.

James Packer’s superyacht listed for eye-watering price of $283m
The reclusive billionaire has listed the superyacht, which was specially built for him, and features a list of luxury features including a nightclub.

Billionaire businessman and investor James Packer has this week topped off a decade of misfortunes with a crushing blow to what was once "the jewel in his crown."
Australian billionaire James Packer has listed his Italian-built superyacht for sale for a whopping $283 million.

The casino mogul bought the yacht in 2019, which boasts a cinema, nightclub, swimming pool and barber’s salon, and was originally purchased for around $200 million.

The yacht which is named IJE, believed to be after his three children Indigo, Jackson and Emmanuelle, has been listed on the site of international superyacht broker Burgess Yachts.

It states that it was “built as the ultimate world-cruising family yacht for a very experienced owner” and can fit 22 guests in 11 cabins, which includes a private owner’s deck........

If you don't mind waiting 3-4 years, lot of work with meetings and planning.
Possibly risks involved of the job being held up by external issues like strikes, spiralling costs, builder going into receivership etc.

Nord has been described as "a warship wearing a tuxedo."

Delivered by Lurssen in 2021, Nord is one of the newest, and biggest, superyachts on the water.
Formerly known as Project Opus, the 142-meter superyacht, which has a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, was devised by Italian design studio Nuvolari Lenard.
"Nord was designed with one idea in mind: she must cause strong emotions in every observer, not only through her sheer size, but with the design itself. No one should be left indifferent," Dan Lennard from Nuvolari-Lenard said in a statement, before describing the vessel as "a warship wearing a tuxedo."
"Whether you like the design or not, it must strike you. Nord is a serious ship first and foremost, but she also transcends the traditional language of yacht design."
Powered by four engines, Nord has a maximum speed of around 20 knots and a volume of 10,154 gross tonnage.
It covers six decks and can accommodate up to 36 guests in its 20 cabins, with amenities such as a beach club, as well as a spa and two helipads on board.

It's 142 meters long. Take away 30 meters for the helipad at the bow...

And all it can fit is 36 people, in TWENTY cabins? Are the cabins 3 bedroom apartments? Look at the size of that thing!
