The VIX is not a leading indicator. I trade VIX related products and it is amazing the amount of nonsense that is put out about the VIX. Since you can't trade the VIX directly, there are other products you need to trade that attempt to derive the return of the VIX. In all these products, the direction that the VIX is actually moving is likely not even the most important component of the trade.
