shorting at etrade question

Does anyone know how to go about shorting at etrade?

Do I have to have a margin account to short a stock? Can I do it with my own money? How do I know which stocks are shortable?

I am in Japan using etrade in Japanese, so it is a bit difficult to get info, but it would be pretty much the same deal as in other countries, and your answer would at least point me in the right direction!

Whew, ok I feel better.

I bet it was the fancy looking advertisements or cool looking software that got you at etrade? Heh, can't blame you, I saw it on TV a while ago and joined up, too bad I didn't know any better to do research before I joined. It is a lesson I learned quickly and it was costly.
