Call it the "we didn't know it was illegal" defense.
Attorneys for former Engineered Support Systems Inc. Chief Executive Michael Shanahan Sr. asked a federal judge Wednesday to throw out the 12 criminal charges he and others face related to stock-option backdating, arguing the laws on the practice were "unconstitutionally vague," and shouldn't be used in criminal cases...
