governments can't maintain the value of fiat currencies and they eventually spiral out of control. nothing special about it, it's just the way it is. nobody wants to roll back economic progress, just to return to a monetary system that doesn't reward wealthy people at the expense of everyone else while facilitating irresponsible govt spending.
