Question about "Hide Email Address?" option

Under 'Edit Options' for 'Hide Email Address?' it says:

"Clicking yes hides your email address in your public profile, so that it is not accessible by other users."

If I select 'Yes' is my e-mail address really visible to others or is it really that members can now send me e-mail but they still can't see what my e-mail address is?

It seems that it can't be seen in either case and really it just enables members to send you e-mail from ET or not.

Is this true?

Yeah, your email address is not made visible on the site in either case. However, if you allow others to email you through the site, you'll be making your email address visible if you choose to reply.
