So, he's willing to risk default of US debt unless he gets his way? Isn't that what he's accusing the Repubs of, right?

Obama started out saying it was wrong to use the debt ceiling to address long term budget issues. Now he suddenly wants to solve everything, conveniently beginning after the next election.

The republicans managed to step back at the last minute from a ledge that obama was preparing to push them off. If they had agree with his plan, he would have immediately gone out and started accusing them of forcing cuts on the elderly to fund tax cuts for the rich.

He ran up this deficit. Let him figure out a way to deal with it on his own. Republicans voted against his stimulus and other budget busting programs. They have no obligation to help him out of this mess.

Obama needs to get tougher. Sink the ship if that's what it takes, only this time the big boys go down too. Message to the corporate titans. How much your stock options gonna' be worth when the DOW is at 2500? How much your million dollar homes gonna' be worth when real estate sinks 75%? Joe Lunch-Bucket goes down, everyone goes with him this time around.

Its sad that Obama is willing to hold the country hostage if he doesnt get his way, it is very dangerous for him to risk us defaulting on our debt just because he wont compromise.

Max, with all due repsect, I think you have it exactly backwards. All the Republicans have to do now is agree to a deal that will close some tax loopholes that benefit mainly the well off and the deal is done. But they can't say yes to a good deal. They want even more cuts - whose immediate effect will be to harm the recovery. I'm not sure they even want a deal any more - they're looking to 2012. God help those who are suffering.

Nope, Obama is the one who is now holding the country hostage, if we default it will be 100% his fault.

The republicans have offered him a deal, and it is Obamas lack of willigness to compromise and do exactly what the republicans tell him to do that is holding up negotiations. So if we default it will be his problem.

If the President lets the US default because he insists on 2 Trillion dollars in new taxes he'll be blamed directly.

Its not the time to raise taxes. It is, however, a very good time to drastically cut spending.

Spending will be cut even if it takes a default to get it done. Either way the US government is going to shrink and there isn't a thing on this blue planet the libtards can do about it.
