'The ocean is missing!' Rare phenomenon caused by Irma sucks the water from Bahamas beaches

* Hurricane Irma is so strong that it is sucked water into itself and away from shorelines in the Bahamas

* Video footage from Long Island, Bahamas shows a dry ocean floor after Hurricane Irma hit on Friday

* A meteorologist explained low pressure in the center of the storm caused the water to be drawn upwards into itself and away from the beach

* The water will not rush back like a tsunami and the shore will likely be back to normal Sunday afternoon

The Crossing of the Red Sea (Hebrew: קריעת ים סוף Kriat Yam Suph - Crossing of the Red Sea or Sea of Reeds [1]) is part of the biblical narrative of the escape of the Israelites, led by Moses, from the pursuing Egyptians in the Book of Exodus 13:17-14:29. This story is also mentioned in the Quran in Surah 26: Al-Shu'ara' (The Poets) in verses 60-67.[1]

According to the Exodus account, Moses held out his staff and the Red Sea was parted by God. The Israelites walked on the exposed ground and crossed the sea, followed by the Egyptian army. Moses again moved his staff once the Israelites had crossed and the sea closed again, drowning the whole Egyptian army.

How Hurricane Irma Is Sucking Florida’s Beaches Dry

The hurricane is leaving flat expanses of land where ocean used to be, but all that water will rush back as storm surge.
