Matt Gaetz says he didn't pay for sex. He's just "generous to ex-girlfriends"
https://boingboing.net/2024/06/19/m...-sex-hes-just-generous-to-ex-girlfriends.html

The House Ethics Committee has been busy chatting with at least half a dozen women who claim they were paid to attend parties where Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz was present. These parties reportedly included drugs, sex, and at least one Venmo transaction that suggested "a payment from Gaetz was for sex."

"One woman told the committee that a payment from Gaetz was for sex, while others have said they were paid to attend parties that Gaetz also attended and that featured drugs and sex
, multiple sources told ABC News."

And if you thought it couldn't get any stickier enter Joel Greenberg, Gaetz's companion in carousing and a convicted sex trafficker. Greenberg, who is currently "serving an 11-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to multiple federal crimes, including the sex trafficking of a minor whom he admitted to introducing to other 'adult men,'" according to ABC News, has been singing like a canary about all sorts of shady dealings, pushing Gaetz deeper into the muck.

Gaetz has long denied these allegations, saying, "someone is trying to recategorize my generosity to ex-girlfriends as something more untoward." He has also compared the House Ethics Committee to the "Soviet" regime. Lucky for him, the committee will move so slowly that by they time they are ready to take action against Gaetz, Trump will be in office with a sweet pardon-for-undying-loyalty deal.

Does everyone remember this MAGA pervert. Well some sealed testimony papers are about to be unsealed.

Matt Gaetz’s alleged sex scandal is heating up again
https://www.dailykos.com/stories/20...etz-s-alleged-sex-scandal-is-heating-up-again

Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz has been out of the news lately, but that may end shortly because a federal judge is expected to soon decide whether to unseal a series of depositions in a civil lawsuit filed by Gaetz associate Chris Dorworth. The lawsuit reportedly includes sealed testimony from a number of women, including Gaetz’s ex-girlfriend, about sex parties and drugs that Gaetz is alleged to have been involved with.

Last Thursday, Dorworth dropped his defamation suit against Gaetz’s former associate Joel Greenberg, a convicted sex trafficker. According to the news outlet NOTUS, this move “sought to bury the scandal,” which has hung over Gaetz, who denies ever having had sex with a minor or engaging in human trafficking. (In late 2022, the Department of Justice recommended no charges against Gaetz in the matter, though a House Ethics Committee continues to investigate similar allegations.)

But on Friday, defense lawyers in Dorworth’s suit against Greenberg submitted papers arguing that the documents in the case should be unsealed, with the alleged victims’ names removed.

In response, Dorworth’s attorneys argue that all the transcripts in the case are “confidential.” However, Greenberg’s lawyer is arguing that the court was already leaning toward unsealing the documents, citing Magistrate Judge Daniel Irick’s comments about keeping the depositions secret.

“This is a case of public importance,” Irick said in court, according to NOTUS. “It is one that there may be media interest in, and it’s one that involves important issues … I’m not seeing any confidentialities that would really overwhelm the First Amendment right for the public to see this case, especially when a plaintiff brings claims in relation to their marriage and spouses and the kind of intimate issues in this case which are laid out in extreme detail in the … complaint. I am unlikely to seal anything because it all seems relevant.”

It is unclear whether Gaetz, who was subpoenaed in the civil case, sat for a deposition and whether any transcripts or video of it would be released if the court unseals depositions. However, any depositions released to the public might help the ongoing House ethics investigation into the Florida congressman. That probe has reportedly gotten its hands on texts and testimony from an unnamed woman who allegedly used to participate in sex parties with Gaetz’s circle of friends. That information could support other reports about the drug- and alcohol-fueled nature of the parties Gaetz was allegedly involved in.

Gaetz has denied all of these reports.

U.S. District Judge Carlos Mendoza, who was appointed by President Barack Obama in 2014, is overseeing the civil case and may make the final decision about whether to release the depositions. The decision is expected to happen by Sept. 19.

Let's see what is showing up in court documents this week.

Matt Gaetz Was at Sex and Drugs Party With High School Junior: Court Docs

Rep. Matt Gaetz was at a 2017 party with a 17-year-old girl at the heart of an alleged sex trafficking scandal, according to legal documents filed Thursday.

The filings cite affidavits based on three witness testimonies—which remain sealed—which put the Florida congressman at the party, according to Notus. One witness cited by the filings says the girl, a high school junior, was naked and said people were there to “engage in sexual activities” while drugs including cocaine and ecstasy were present.

The documents were filed by lawyers trying to recoup legal fees in a lawsuit filed by Chris Dorworth—a lobbyist friend of Gaetz’s who hosted the alleged party at his Florida home.

The teen girl is identified in the paperwork only as A.B., according to Notus. “The discovery taken in this case to date reflects that on Saturday, July 15, 2017... Dorworth... hosted a party at his residence... with the following guests present” one of the documents says, before listing several people including “A.B.” and “Matt Gaetz.”

According to Notus, the new documents are the first time that “that sworn testimony has been referenced in public court filings alleging that the congressman attended one of the long-rumored parties tied to an alleged underage sex scandal.

In 2021, the Daily Beast reported on a confession letter written by Gaetz’s associate Joel Greenberg. In the note, Greenberg claimed Gaetz paid him to arrange sex with several women and a girl who, at the time, was 17.

The Beast also revealed private Venmo logs showing that Gaetz did send money to Greenberg, even using a nickname for the adolescent at one point when she had turned 18.

Greenberg is currently serving an 11-year sentence after his conviction on several charges including sex trafficking with a child.

Gaetz has previously denied engaging sex trafficking or having sex with a minor, and a DOJ investigation ended without charges being brought against the congressman.
