Matrox still the gold standard for 2d output?

I recommend researching beyond this forum since you mentioned 'fatigue' factor. Seriously good monitors are sold to specialised fields, e.g. medical imaging, aerial recon, but those cost like a house.

The one I am very pleased with is a NEC Multisync PAxxxx Series. Again, do your own research: there is a huge difference between truly well designed and implemented ones and the likes of LG, Samsung and BenQ.

Those PA may surprise you with old fluo tech, but I have a 2011 PA241W that passes all calibration tests without a need to calibrate anything through all these years - and I can read text off of those for hours...
