META had a huge rally even before the earnings. The news was already leaked to the privileged few.

Someone, a stock market analyst, please do an analysis of the highest daily upside moves of US listed stocks with the biggest MktCaps for the last x years, and post such a list.

Can someone compute how many sigmas this move was? Ie. how many SDs.
For smoothed HV or ATM IV (both as of yesterday, ie. before the move today), or for both.
Or someone post just the HV and/or ATM IV of META (as of yesterday), for calculating the sigma change by others.
It looks like that it was a "bigger than 3 sigma event", ie. a very seldom event...

I did a quick analysis of Nasdaq 100 stocks going back to 1990 (including delisted companies and companies no longer part of the index). The fact that the companies were/are part of the index means their market cap was/is significant. Total dates analyzed for all the various stocks was about 870,000. Of those dates there were 896 large moves (15% either way) or about 0.1% of the total. In the last year a move like this happened 23 times for the following companies:

DDOG
ENPH
FTNT
LULU
MDB
META
MRNA
MRVL
NFLX
NVDA
SGEN
SPLK
TEAM
TTD
ZS

Doing SD calculations and volatility requires a lot more work.

BTW, Meta had an even bigger move last year (+19.76%) during its Feb 2023 earnings.
