How can I trade on the India Stock Exchange

How can I trade on the India Stock Exchange. I live in the U.s. I know some Indian stocks such as TTM are available on American exchanges, but I want to trade on the Indian Stock Exchange so I can trade the Indian stock, Bharti Tele-Ventures Limited. How do I do that?
 
If you are not a citizen of India, then you can trade on Indian Stock Markets only through FII route i.e. through a registered foreign institutional investor in India.

If you are an NRI or PIO (people of indian origin) than there are not much formalities and you can trade.
