Help! An big error was made on my gain/loss but the brokerage does not want to fix it! Attached imag

Thanks. Kinda panicking
You got your answer (s). If you're still panicking, maybe you should quit the game. Why did you even ask?
I suggest you contact a firm like Gainskeeper. They will upload all your activity and produce a report for your taxes. You then write a letter explaining why they are different from the 1099.

Good luck...Bob

Ooops... I had posted the wrong link. This is the correct link for the program that interfaces most brokers and uploads your trades, than does all the calculations - including wash, and puts in a format that you submit with your Sch D. It costs $29 and never expires - I have used it for years now.

Not sure how I can find a specialized accountant. I went to 5 different accountants and they have not been very knowledgeable in this subject

Ah yeah. When I worked as an accountant the head of All-Tech back in the middle to late 90's brought all of his boxes of trades to our office. My dad, who ran the company at the time gave them to me. I looked at him like he was nuts if he thought I was going to put every transaction into the computer by hand. This guy (can't remember his name, I wouldn't put it here anyway now that I think of it, or the area I was at (because someone could figure out who he was) was scalping 1/4's of Microsoft with 1,000 shares all day long like a lunatic. So we decided to just put his total sales and losses on one page and said to hell with it. I don't know what happened to him or his 1040 because we never heard from him again. Ah, the good old days. lol

My accountant did that to me too (in 2008). I was okay.

If you are panicking, what do you expect other posters to do? Review and fill out your paperwork? Maybe you can give an indication of what you did with the various pieces of advice which were given to you. Which ones have you investigated? Which ones did you like? Which ones did you not like, and why?
