It would be interesting and valuable if the right people engaged in such room. But you can't ever guarantee it. At a bank trading desk you get a natural filter. Each year underperformers are fired and new traders join. Engaging with them was for me at least always above all else fun and hilarious (because you are essentially engaging with a bunch of borderline psychopaths) but also highly valuable in terms of information sharing.
Here, however, you probably get 2 or 3 good guys who have an edge they are willing to share every now and then 100 idiots and retards who can hardly read. The 2 or 3 guys will leave after a week max. That's just reality. Sorry I just don't believe in the ability to properly vet joiners in an online chat room.
That's fair enough, luckily for me I don't really need any additional information from a technical standpoint and hearing others opinions does not make me question my own trades. So, I really have little to lose and trading with others helps me be more patient and not take as many rogue trades. The person I use to trade with has many people he is helping and unfortunately for me does not have time to intra-day trade with me anymore via voice due to his other responsibilities.
Lastly, voice I believe does help the problem you're speaking of. That's why I stressed I prefer it be voice, because people tend to take a chat room just full of text less serious, than actual voice communication.
