A high-speed rail from LA to Vegas makes total sense. How could it not be popular, provided the roundtrip ticket cost is the same or less than the round-trip gasoline cost?

The competition isn't cars, it's buses. There's a large Asian community in LA going to Vegas every weekend. The bullet train will cut the time substantially and put the buses out of business if priced correctly.
