End of week/month symbol list needed

I'm looking for a nasdaq and nyse symbol list snapshot going as far back as 2001. I basically need to know what symbols existed at a given time. Does anyone know where/how I can get such a list?

I suppose you want this information to compile a list of delisted/dropped stocks?

There's a long list of delisted US stocks here, from the NASDAQ, NYSE and AMEX markets:

If you're interested in delisted OTCBB stocks, the OTCBB daily list goes back to 1998:
http://www.otcbb.com/dailylist/

You can also use archive.org on some sites that list the market's symbols. For example, from this page you can get a current list of NASDAQ, NYSE or AMEX symbols. Archive.org has archived versions of these pages from as far back as 2001, here're their versions of the NASDAQ list:
