Does anybody trade ES using tick charts?

Do you use tick charts to trade ES?

  • There is edge in tick charts.

  • Tick charts are pointless.

I like volume charts and range bar charts:

So let's say I put tick charts all over my workstation.

ES tick charts using 5 tick, 20 tick, 40 tick, all of it.

Then I put indicators all over the charts. Averages, VWAP, bands, and more.

Is there some kind of edge in it? Could it work in the overnight session?

Backtest and then simulate trade what you just stated.

You'll be able to answer your own questions about such especially with all the time on your hands with the government shut downs.

There is edge in tick charts

There is ...
You can only refute the efficient market hypothesis,
By actually sensing and exploiting an inefficiency.
Until then ... There isn’t an edge in tick charts.

[An] Edge ...
Don’t mistake an edge for a holy grail.
Some are lasting, some a transient.

The market is made of imperfect humans.
And of imperfect algorithms made by imperfect humans.

What’s informational advantages of tick charts ?
What’s the superior, faster or private info ?
How can you exploit it ?

(In) Tick Charts
Tick charts are charts.
Charts record previous transaction.
What you see on a chart is history. Done.
Does history can tell what’s about to happen ?
Ticks charts display nearby actions and interactions.

Tick charts are pointless

They are pointless if they don’t help you.
Can you achieve superior return thanks to tick charts ?
Superior returns mean superior information and execution.

If you want to bankrupt an average risk taker,
Simply give him more information.
@nntaleb

...

Does it inform about the future price of an asset ?
Does it correlate with future price changes ?
Is it Profitable on average ?

How strongly might this impact subsequent market activity ?

...

Do not overestimate the predictive power of your signals and Do not underestimating the costs.

Apparently, I made a thread about time vs price driven charts back in the day. Here's two pictures from that thread highlighting the difference between time vs volume during heightened volatility.

There were quite a few long 1-minute bars yesterday, too.
