It would be somewhat of a poetic justice that what we deign to be "Hell" (or for that matter, "Heaven") beyond this life would be, at least in part, of our own creation.
Throughout history and literature (scriptural or otherwise), and across all cultures, is the sentiment "As you sow, so shall you reap."
