Company is Banning Trading from Work?

I got an email recently that people are no longer allowed to bring laptops to work. It's an obvious response to my boss catching me on my laptop and assuming I'm not working when in reality I was using a few seconds to glance at the charts. But I don't think I can argue this.

Technically, I don't need the job but it helps pass the time and alleviate some of the pressure to make money for rent and bills. In response I'm now considering quitting as my job is during trading hours and I've missed some good moves due to the job too.

I could try swing trading as an alternative.

So, does everyone think it's time to quit? Or maybe switch to swing trading? What other ideas are there that I can do?

Also, my boss is female. Don't know if that's important. Just mentioning it.

Also, it's a small company with no opportunities to move up.

Trust me. If I could automate my strategy I would have done it a long time ago.

do you a track record of performance?

the fact that you ask this question on a public board shows that you do not have enough ambition to make the necessary sacrifices in order to be successful.

even algo or hft traders are not completely autopilot. their trades are watched over by a person in addition to being constantly tweaked.

your advice and his response are 10 light years away from reality.
 
Sounds like your options are:

1. Switch to a longer time frame which doesn't require you to watch the markets during the day.

(not sure why you would want to run the risk of doing that if what you're currently doing is working)

2. Find a different job which will allow you to do what you're currently doing, or possibly find a job that has off hours such as nights and weekends.

3. Quit working all together and focus on trading.

4. Start a business or consulting where you can work at your own pace and watch the markets whenever you want to.
 
Your boss is a tyrant. You should be allowed to do as you wish while you are at work; trade, watch TV, surf the net, what ever.

As long as you show up close to your starting time, don't leave too early, what right does he/she have to tell you how you spend your time there.

Definitely time to leave that place as soon as possible. This is the 21st century, you are working in medieval conditions.

Don't forget to claim your 5 years severance pay with full medical coverage as well.

What? If you have to keep monitoring your auto program. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of automation?
