Cloning drive (ATA to SATA)

I just bought a Seagate 250GB SATA HD and want to copy everything from my old C:drive to this new HD and make it the boot drive. Is that an easy switch since my old HD is not a serialATA?

Should I use Seagate's DiskWizard to setup the drive and copy everything over, or should I use NortonGhost (with that command line, since I have XP)?

Hi rg,

I did this once copying from a Maxtor 150GB to a Seagate 250GB. I used Acronis utilities. To my surprise everything worked OK. I went from ATA to ATA though but I don't think that this will make any difference. It is always worth trying as you can't loose anything. You will save yourself a lot of time if it works.

Shouldnt be a problem as long as your computer supports booting off the SATA drive. Any disk copying software should be fine, never used Seagate's diskwizard myself. Are you planning on leaving the existing PATA drive attached? If so you probably have to make BIOS setting changes to change the boot order so the old C drive isnt booted.
 
I used the Seagate DiskWizard program to to make a boot disk which sets up the drive and moves everything from C to the new drive to make it my new boot drive.
Everything seems to be working fine, so I'm happy:)
