A bit less destructive than the cultural revolution. Also it's common knowledge that humanity can't unite and usher in that elusive golden era of peace until there's one single global unified sewage system, administered by a good-humoured and benevolent AI, so perhaps this is a step in the right direction.

I was on an old river boat and they literally just stuck their asses over a railing, there was a curtain but only in the boat side, everyone else in the river had a scat show.

Things are changing but India is actually better than China in my experience though both totally dangerous for food poisoning. I've seen children just taking a dump into a rain drainage grate. They just have kids go wherever instead of using nappies. I never noticed this in India.
