Although I am not 100% certain about this, I would think that your Dell 2300 has an INTEGRATED GRAPHICS capability, which means that you do not have an AGP slot on your motherboard for your video card that will allow you to upgrade your video card to one that would support 2 monitors.
Even if you were to add a video card to one of your PCI slots you would have to "disable" the onboard (integrated graphics ) video from the motherboard, thus putting you back to square one and only able to support ONE MONITOR.
The only thing that I could think of would be to see if you can find a PCI video card that has "dual-outputs" that would allow you to support 2 monitors. These might be very difficult to find, since most PCI slot video cards ( that support only one monitor ) are pretty rare in themselves these days.
waggie: you are correct. I also contacted Dell and my understanding is that what I'd like to do is very difficult if not impossible with the 2300. I'm also going to contact Matrox and see if their tech support knows any better, otherwise I'll just let my kids use the 2300 and get another Dell with the right video card.
Michael: Thanks for the offer, but looks like I can't use this card right now.
Appreciate the responses from all.
