Algorithmic Trading Bot

Hi,

I'm a software developer with extensive Java knowledge, and Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing background.

Is it realistic to code an algorithmic trading bot as an individual on online markets (such as bitcoin) and make a living?

Thanks

Yes, but not necessarily bitcoin - you can not move real amounts of money through the bigcoin exchanges at all times.

Note that "realistic" is not "easy".

if you're not in the US or know someone outside of the US it would be cool to write bots for betfair, smarkets, etc

That's an interesting idea. Online sentiment has be shown to be a good predictor of stock markets, or elections outcome. I was wondering if it could predict sport events

Sorry to bump this up guys. Did someone already tried this already and see if it has been working for them over the years?

Hinton did some research on using NLP on SEC filings and autoencoders
This could be an interesting avenue for research since there's plenty of free data through Edgar.
