    Anybody own a house?

Goodness. So many big ideas. I think we're getting a bit off topic. Owning a home and owning a business provide real and significant satisfaction to many of us in America. From my personal experience (I assure you) I DO have a business and I see results all the time. The more you watch our...

    Anybody own a house?

Having been to different parts of Europe several times, and returning in a few months, I think it depends on where and what your are doing in society. America, compared to most other countries, offers the best opportunities=starting your own business... Many countries in Western Europe...

    Anybody own a house?

Give me Big Sur or Puget Sound. ------- Sure. Do both. I don't understand why people stay in one place all the time. Keep the house in Santa Barbara, and then rent a place in the city, either LA or Seattle. - d

    Anybody own a house?

(I told myself I'd never get into these kinds of discussions and I'd just troll the site for useful information, but in this case I really have to say something...) A "loser" is a person who fails to achieve his goals. Second, cities are complex places. Rents can vary dramatically...

    Should I day-trade full-time???

No. The fact you're even posing the question here indicates you aren't completely completely confident, and if you have these kinds of doubts now it's more likely they will become more intense if you have to rely solely on trading income. You can't doubt your abilities or your strategy/ies...

    Investing in Bonds

I have a bond newbie question. When a broker (IB) says "bond margin", this refers only to selling bonds, correct? Or can you actually BUY bonds on margin, only put up 10-30% of the value? - d

    Margin Interest

I'm not a daytrader so I'm referring to overnight requirements. I'm using IB for this type of trading. With that said, how are you only being charged a 10% margin req. on equities? NYSE minimum equity requirement is 25%. Right. IB's formula isn't "10%". But margin requirements change...

    Margin Interest

Here's a basic question. As I leg into various positions I've noticed that the margin requirement for a simple protective Put is usually about 10% of the stock value. (Buy 100 shares, buy 1 ATM Put) Of course this changes as the underlying moves. I'm just referring to initial conditions...

    Ivx, Teva

I closed for a modest profit. Holding a partially-hedged position after the deal is done would kind of defeat the purpose of a reversal (or conversion). I think a box would have been better in this situation. Thanks for the input. - d

Actually I don't have a LOT of experience with options, but looking for significant mispricings has been not very profitable for me. Now when I see something like this I just assume there's an issue I don't understand. Usually regarding a merger or dividend. In this case: There's a...

I'm assuming IVX Puts are expensive due to the merger. Is a reverse conversion a bad idea in this situation? What would happen? Here are the terms: http://www.optionsclearing.com/market/infomemos/2005/dec/21305.pdf thanks - d
