Yes!!!! Unfortunately there is no software which covers everything. I use 2 software packages now (MC and NT) and would need a third one for portfolio backtesting (probably Amibroker).

Comparison of Portfolio Trading and Testing Platforms?

Maybe "max. number of symbols for portfolio testing". Only a few platforms do unlimited symbols. Multicharts is limited to 100 symbols (unlimited only with the expensive "PRO" version).

    Software to build continuous contracts

Hi, I have a lot of ASCII files with single futures contracts (daily and intraday). I'm looking for a software tool to link these contracts together into continuous contract ASCII files, preferably with some kind of back-adjusting. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Deciding on a Backtesting and Trading Platform

Which version do you use? I had the same experience with versions prior 2.1. But version 2.1 is very stable and I don't have these problems anymore.

Sorry, I overlooked that it´s an optimization. I only saw "170,000 bars". My fault.

Neoticker would need almost 3 minutes to backtest on a single stock 10 years of daily data. This can´t be correct.

The disadvantage of the retail trader

The initial question was which software uses of the enormous hardware power available today and enables the small guy to backtest and scan large amounts of data. The suggestions so far: - Neoticker - NinjaTrader - OpenQuant Any other software?

The disadvantage of the retail trader

Regarding Trading Software, this would be a great! As Don Bright says below: "....focusing on the "what you're doing" with your trading style/tactic/plan, etc. would be a better use of brain power."

The disadvantage of the retail trader

Also a good point where I agree, but maybe the tons of indicators, charting and platforms could be better. That´s the reason for this thread.

The disadvantage of the retail trader

Yes, but programming the tools itself is something beyond my possibilites. Traders want to be mainly traders, but that´s a topic for another thread.

The disadvantage of the retail trader

ok thanks gurucandidate. I will check Neoticker. Of course I don´t think that we need the best technology to survive, but I don´t like the fact that we have so much computer power today and only programmers can take full advantage of it.

The disadvantage of the retail trader

Bogan7, Of course it needs time, I´m talking about a development over time. We now have quadcore cpu´s and several GB of RAM are affordable. Do you see a proportional improvement in trading technlogy for the retail trader over the last 5 years?
