Retail Bullets and Single Stock Futures

The bullet is for someone trading the stock. Obviously you won't need a bullet for trading SSFs. There may be still reason for trading stock over SSFs. E.g., the stock has lots of liquity but the SSF doesn't. There may be other reasons for staying with the stock.

Retail Bullets and Single Stock Futures

Good points about trading SSFs but back to the original question: does going long on a stock plus selling SSF contracts add up to a bullet? Also, would a broker recognize this as a net neutral position from a margin requirements perspective?

Retail Bullets and Single Stock Futures

Am I correct in thinking that retail traders will be able to create their own resuable bullets by buying the stock and selling the corresponding number of SSF contracts? (For this purpose selling the SSF contract is essentially the same as having a long put and a short call: it obliges the...

    Bullets at a Retail Firm?

Pardon my ignorance here but what would prevent a retail customer who just trades one or two stocks from creating their own bullet which can then be re-used over and over? I can see where it would tie up capital since you have to actually buy the stock to create the near neutral position along...

    Addiction to trading

People get seriously addicted to gambling, video games, and the like. I wonder how many people get addicted to trading. I mean serious addiction, like when you just can't stop no matter how much money you're losing.

    Daytrading profit potential

Just for fun I once carefully analyzed the one minute for a stock with normally good daily volatility. I picked an average day for my test. I pretended to have a $25,000 account and maxed it out with 4:1 margin on every trade. (I kept the number of shares the same for every trade.) I then...

    Anybody making any real $$$???

I'm not surprised at the lack of response. Let me float another idea the firms might find more acceptable: 1. Professional firms send the information about actual numbers of traders in each category along with turnover statistics to Baron who swears to keep that information secret. 2...

    Attention all geeks!

If anyone is interested in finding out how physicists are using Technical Analysis to predict major market swings, check out this article in the May 2002 edition of Scientific American: http://www.sciam.com/2002/0502issue/0502scicit5.html I have an undergraduate degree in Physics. I can...

    Anybody making any real $$$???

Perhaps the representatives of professional firms could give us some data on income distributions for their firms. E.g., what percentage of their traders year to date have made: - less than $0. - $0 to $10,000 - $10,000 to $25,000 - $25,000 to $50,000 - $50,000 to $100,000 - over...

    free daytrading ebooks

The analogy I remember is to test if you would like to take up ocean yacht racing as a sport you should stand in an ice cold shower with all your clothes on while tearing up hundred dollar bills. If that appeals to you then so will ocean racing!

What format do you keep your journal?

Keeda, Here is a screen print of the trade entry window. All grayed fields are either calculated or pre-specified (e.g., minimum reward/risk ratio). The top part of the window is for modeling: calculate number of shares to be traded based on how much capital I want to invest and risked...

What format do you keep your journal?

For a variety of reasons I won't get into, I'm in a prolonged start-up stage so I'm not exactly an authority on matters of trading. However this is a topic I feel very strongly about so I thought I'd post reply. In my management consulting business I'm often harping to clients about the...

    Learning to trade by scalping?

Part of the issue I'm having with this thread and similar ones is the definition of terms like scalping. It seems to vary from person to person. This makes it hard compare people's opinions. I'm still very much at the paper trading stage. I've developed a database to keep track of all my...

    Oh for shame!!!

Ironically I played hockey and never did ballet. Hopefully I can handle this game also. I think I can, it's just a matter of learning the rules, or lack of them!

    Oh for shame!!!

I've gotten lots of valuable information from this site in the two months that I've been following it. I have to say though that the occasional personal attacks, justified or not, are dissapointing. Perhaps if people posted using their real names the situation may change. In another...

    Tax Question for Canadian Traders

I am just getting started as a day trader. My accountant tells me that, as a person who holds stock for short periods, my earnings will be considered to be income instead of capital gains. That means having to pay tax on 100% of the earnings (after commissions etc.) instead of 50%. Is it...

    Day trading in Canada

I sent IB an e-mail on December 26 asking about Canadian registration. They replied stating January as a target. A few days later they sent me another e-mail saying it would now be February. Check again on March 1 I guess. I sent an e-mail to the Securities Commission here in BC urging...

    Trading Compared to Mountain Climbing

I’m a beginner when it comes to stock trading and am still in pre-startup mode. I’m waiting for IB to become established here in Vancouver, Canada before I make my first trade. (This will be February at the earliest.) I’ve learned a lot from this forum and other material in the past...
