mini Corn, mini Soybeans, mini Wheat..a joke cause no volume???

More of a hedge mechanism for smaller producers. Not all farmers want to take 5k bushel shots at the market and the minis come in handy for them.

    Wheat's going to Take Off!

Stocks were historically tight coming into this harvest, which is pushing its way toward completion (winter wheat). THe USDA actually upped 07/08 ending stocks on their July report, coming up to 306 million bushels vs. 254 mil on the June report. The 08/09 ending stocks projection of 537...

    Wheat's going to Take Off!

I would be very careful when comparing the wheat situation this year to last year-completely different situation. You have to understand wheat is the one crop that can be grown pretty much anywhere around the world-allowing us to cure a tight stocks situation in one year, which is exactly what...

Farmers are going to crash and burn, especially those who went all corn

Some will crash and burn, but it will be weather related or very poor risk management. Producers have had every opporutnity in the world to protect excellent profits through insurance and all of the available marketing and risk management tools. Even with inputs rising like they have, record...

    When is the Crops report?

One of the best all-time movie quotes... "Think big, think positive, never show any sign of weakness. Always go for the throat. Buy low, sell high. Fear? That's the other guy's problem. Nothing you have ever experienced will prepare you for the absolute carnage you are about to witness. Super...

Commodities Broker: Interest on Cash Collateral

It is common practice not to pay interest. You can still use T-bills, although I haven't dealt with it for a while. Years ago you could use 90% for margin requirements. Might have been some changes, I can check for you if your broker can't answer your questions.

    New Crop Wheat, Corn, Soy

If you're that bullish, buy futures and buy a cheaper put in one of the closer months to protect in case something goes haywire. If you're right in the long run and we continue to scream higher, 10 or 20 cents in option premium to hedge your futures position will be miniscule.

Was there a certain reason you went with the pit?? Volume in the pits for softs is terrible with most of the action electronic. I would suggest staying away from the pits on the softs.

    Minneapolis Wheat

Nazz gave you some excellent advice. In a market like that it may feel like you need to participate in some way because of how fast it moves and the lure of big gains in a hurry, but I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole at this point. Let it play out with someone else's money on the line...

This is the 4th day in a row it has been limit bid at the open...not too many trades getting done. Any shorts are getting creamed in that market as there has been no way to get out for several days. There are currently over 23,000 contracts of open interest in March Minneapolis wheat...
