Better to Penny or Join Offer When Selling?

Given that "smart" computers and daytraders are watching every tick these days, do you guys think it's better to join the offer or penny the offer when you're trying to sell? (assume it's a $40 stock that trades 1,000,000 shares a day with .05 average cent spreads.)

    Prop deals in Canada

My understanding is that if you want a low rate at Questrade you must also pay ~$6 per stock symbol traded each day. Apparently they attribute this to the fact that their clearing firm (Penson Canada) charges this surcharge. Can anyone confirm this? If so, and you trade a lot of stocks...

Any broker offer the .0025 INET/BRUT rebate?

Anyone know of any brokers out there that qualify for, and pass through, the higher .0025 per share rebate offered by INET and BRUT? For reference (the broker needs to add 30 million shares a day in liquidity to qualify)...

    Exposing one Donald Bright

I think the point was that if you trade several tickets a day (50-100+) your odds of missing a few fills each day are high with a 1/4 second handicap. From my experience, the opportunity cost of missed fills--even one a day--can offset so-called cheap commissions. As ECNs become more prevalent...

    Net Capital requirements for broker/dealers.

Good point Don, For those firms who hold trader money for a year (Echo, et al), put up a reference to the SEC or SRO rule that requires you to do this. My guess is that firms are using this "rule" as a convenient way to lock traders into one-year contracts--which, if true, is underhanded...

I second that GHJ. Where is the value added for the 30-80% of your P&L that you have to cough up to uncle Bobbie.

For Serious Traders from Don Bright

Mr. Beckmeyer, Sorry to inflame you so. :) You are right to a degree. Sources add to credibility and I wish that more written sources were available to corroberate the few points that require it. Nonetheless, a little research on your own will validate each of the points you question...

    Trading listed vs Nasdaq

Hi Honda, Opening only orders are a popular strategy at some firms. They only work on the NYSE, however, where the supply and demand is regulated by one person (versus many MMs). The idea is to go "with" the specialist and trade in the direction of the specialist's inventory in the...
