    IB NYMEX Margins 100%

Perhaps an IB rep can answer as to why the Nymex daytrading margins are still 100% (now January)? All of the other futures contracts reverted to 50% margins months ago, at which time an IB reps said that the Nymex margins would be going to 50% shortly as well.

    Anyone Trading the YM Today?

Today was very brutal...only one trade the whole day for me...it doesn't matter how volatile the market is; if its trending or not, the problem with days like today is that S+R (support and resistance) doesn't have the institutional backing to form; so we get the effect of the market just being...

CL - nice little contract to trade

Who is your broker? IB was charging 7,800$ a contract...now its about 7100$, as per the Nymex non-member rates

    Vancouver BC traders unite!

I'll post the link again to where a bunch of traders meetup through:http://daytraders.meetup.com/140/ Bright Traders are also a good bunch of guys, I know some of them, only a couple of them left downtown though....while apartment vacancy is extremely low downtown (0.3%), its still quite easy...

Oil Traders Increase Bets on $125 Crude as Options Trades Jump

I understand what you are saying..but no matter how you slice it, the world economy is dependent on oil for reasons of a political and corporate nature. Oil is not the most efficient source of energy, though, it is one of the most, but ONLY because that is where the massive amount of money is...

Oil Traders Increase Bets on $125 Crude as Options Trades Jump

All of this conjecture is nonsense, oil as an energy source is getting more and more implausible, by 2030, oil will be obsolete. Its only due to the fact that oil is politically and corporately championed that modern technology and lifestyles have become so dependent upon it. (As another...

Oil Traders Increase Bets on $125 Crude as Options Trades Jump

I wouldn't be taking your news from Bloomberg, as they have no idea what they are talking about...when explaining oil prices, they look for the closest significant event of the day...and state "X-move" was caused by "Y", often revising "x" and "y" throughout the day...the article you posted...

    ICE Vs. NYMEX

The ICE doesn't trade independently..it is merely the shadow of the CL contract on the Nymex (which is to say that WTI-ICE is all arbed/balckbox)...the liqudity is terrible, the DOM only makes sense when you are watching it relative again to Nymex, and the slippage is extreme...

    Nymex Purposely Manipulating Oil Volatility?

One has to wonder if the Nymex is raising its margin requirements in order to increase volatility, I can't see an advantage to them doing so, but the alternative is that they are incredibly stupid, and that doesn't seem to fit with the board members experience and the Harvard degrees. The...

    IB Crude Oil Margin Reqs

Also..just to mention...for other oil traders, that now means that London is 16.3% cheaper per contract margin, and 30% better on commission at Ib rates currently...though, not nearly close in liquidiity...as of next month's contract...margins will be roughly same (Nymex/IPE)

    IB Crude Oil Margin Reqs

Hey Chauncey...no worries..I understand what you are saying...and as I realized..the Nymex is the one that did consistently raise the margin twice for customers...which was Ib's rate increases...though...as to effecting trading...I use ultra-tight stops in my trading..so my account is never at...

    IB Crude Oil Margin Reqs

Ids...and others...it seems that IB has indeed been consistent with the Nymex margin rate increases as of late..and have always charged the customer rate..this from the other press release: "NYMEX to Change Margins for Crude Oil, Related Futures Contracts NEW YORK, N.Y., October 16, 2007...

    IB Crude Oil Margin Reqs

Firstly...the backmonth of oil is $5,400, that is true...HOWEVER, the current contract month is $6,416 currently, that is a fact. This is inline with the Nymex rate for non-members (if you read the initial first post). You should also know that yesterday the margin rate was $4750 (the clearing...

    IB Crude Oil Margin Reqs

Again chauncey1...its has nothing to do with being a "good" trader or not, or being "overleveraged"...these are non-sensical points...and IB increasing the margin req. to 3times the August rate, is not a small margin increase....the Nymex margin increase of 17.5% is small. Personally, I have...

    IB Crude Oil Margin Reqs

Firstly, it doesn't matter how many contracts or portfolio leverage that one trades, the margin req. increase is going to effect your contract size (hence your trading system) just the same. Personally, my maximum limit that I will go is 50% of my portfolio into a single trade, on 1 exchange...

    IB Crude Oil Margin Reqs

Today IB raised the crude oil margin (CLZ), to the amount of $6,400 (it was approx $2200 back in August, a 290% increase)...Nymex raised its margin reqs during this time a mere 17.5%. IB already raised its margin rates from $4050 to $4700, in line with the notice of margin reqs increase from...

IB's 4% Intraday Initial Margin Req. for Index Futures

Ids, or any other IB rep...do you know why Nymex margin reqs are still double...this seems odd in that Energy was never effected by the volatility in the first place (well, not like index futures which have come down), and more so, NYMEX has just LOWERED their margin reqs to all member/clearing...

IB's 4% Intraday Initial Margin Req. for Index Futures

Hey Ids, is IB planning to lower the Nymex futures (particularily energy: CL,NG,RB)? The summer volatility in index futures, didn't even effect energy futures in the first place..seems odd they would be left raised...

IB's 4% Intraday Initial Margin Req. for Index Futures

The intraday margin for ER2 is down to 50%, however, YM is still 100%, which makes for the odd situation of ER2 contract margin being substantially less than YM...also, no change in energy futures...

IB's 4% Intraday Initial Margin Req. for Index Futures

Thanks for the reply Def, its appreciated...also good to hear that IB does indeed intend to lower them.
