Anyone using Real-Time Options Scanners / Screeners?

I think so, ZBZB. I've all but exhausted my search, and I think you have as well. Your research matched mine. On the surface, it seems that such a true real-time service no longer exists. Or if it does, it is either a) obscure, or b) reserved for the greedy professionals and kept away from the...

Anyone using Real-Time Options Scanners / Screeners?

Specifically, they were providing Ivolatility's RT Scanner and ST Scanner until 2015, when Ivolatility did away with the ST Scanner and went solely with the RT Scanner. So in the end, it was Ivolatility's RT Scanner. The RT Scanner turned to vastly stale data in Spring 2022, as described above...

Anyone using Real-Time Options Scanners / Screeners?

Sampled Barchart, and it is not real-time. Too bad, because the price was right! You are a gem, ZBZB, because Ivolatility was the other platform I was referring to when I said that some claim to be real-time and it's quite not so. I really don't know how they can claim "real-time". I've used...

Anyone using Real-Time Options Scanners / Screeners?

What I like to do is perform a scan for covered calls at a desired distance out of the money with bids, and then pick one to buy the stock and sell the call. Can also be done with cash-secured puts. So it's a rather simple search. The percent OTM that I'll go for will vary depending on how many...

And I think you also need to open a brokerage account with them, am I right?

Anyone using Real-Time Options Scanners / Screeners?

Very interesting that you mentioned Power Options, and thank you! Of all the services I sampled, this was the most promising. It seems you felt the same. I actually subscribed to the real-time service at $120/month. The most pricey I saw, but it seemed like it had the goods. It turns out that...

Anyone using Real-Time Options Scanners / Screeners?

Hello all. I had a broker that offered a real-time option scanner for free through a third-party arrangement it secured. It was a nice feature and it worked great, but the broker has done away with this nice client benefit. All good things come to an end, I suppose. What I like to do is...

    Option trader tax status

Thanks, Steven. Can you share the advantages that you found by forming the LLC for yourself (as your wife has her own LLC) over using "trader status"?

    Option trader tax status

Thanks, sprstpd. From what I've read, though, it seems that you can have Schedule C show just expenses and be negative so long as there is a letter of explanation. And if I'm correct, that would negate the social security tax concern.

comagnum said: Trader Status has some serious pitfalls as compared to structuring as a business. Check out this article: https://andersonadvisors.com/trader_taxation/ Thanks, Robert. I suppose I'll look into setting up an LLC. Having asset protection is a plus. But the article makes some good...

Historic streak of 109 days comes to an end. What now, DOW?

Usually 2nd half of April is good, but so far not so! AAPL and AMZN still to come. Thanks for the reminder about the May headwinds. May doesn't always need an excuse to sell off, but it has 2 this time around! Looking to sell on some strength.

Historic streak of 109 days comes to an end. What now, DOW?

As a follow-up from my first post to the question of when the April rally would begin, I believe the 50-day moving average didn't hold this morning. I also believe it was due to the final sales for "accountant's call". I pounded UPRO at $93.56 this morning. Past history has shown that you have a...

    Option trader tax status

As someone who more and more feels that I would clearly be considered a "trader" in the IRS view based on all the things they say to consider (my tax return is like an inch thick!), I'd like to first share a website article I read this week...

Good point. I was thinking more in terms of the tax benefit in a year of large capital losses, but good point.

    Option trader tax status

So if I were to decide, especially starting in a year of capital gains losses, to classify my options trading majority under TTS, I had a thought. I options trade for a living. It's my business. I also trade my wife's account just as extensively. My wife is employed. We file jointly. My wife...

I stand corrected! Thanks, Steven, for being so thorough explaining your experience with TTS status, your successful IRS examination, and your research. Very helpful to many of us here!

    Can IRS force Trader Status?

With all due respect, I said "many", not "most". Retirees can and will move anywhere, and can and will cite taxation as a motive. Traders can trade from anywhere. And in my area, where people can have a similar time-wise commute to their job (usually in NYC) from multiple states, some can and...

    Option trader tax status

It would probably be worth the time and effort in a year of capital loss, as it would then present tax savings in my state. I agree that it's probably not worth my time and effort otherwise. I wouldn't have a lot of business deductions.
