IB extra-long maintenance period today Saturday April 9th ?

Yeah, this is typical IB customer service. No notice, no nada -- and system status still says everything is fine!!

Problems trading futures in IRA accounts at IB?

I'm hearing reports from various traders that IB has suddenly stopped allowing IRA accounts to trade futures, as of this morning. Is this accurate? Can anyone shed any more light on this?

Reliability -- Dell vs. HP vs. Lenovo

WinstonTJ: thanks much for your comprehensive reply. That is a real detailed set of instructions, with a lot of valuable info. In my case, as I said in my original post, I don't want to build a machine. It's not that I don't want to get thermal grease on my fingers or put boards together...

Reliability -- Dell vs. HP vs. Lenovo

I agree that not that much cpu power is needed for normal trading. But as I said in my initial post, what's driving the requirement here is model development and backtesting, where I run my current quad-core machine at very high CPU usage rates for hours at a time, often overnight. That...

Reliability -- Dell vs. HP vs. Lenovo

Thanks for the replies. Scat, going with Dell Outlet means that I give up the ability to configure the machine like I want it, right? So it seems it's just a matter of finding one there that is close enough to my desired specs and going with it, correct? Also, what does "certified...

Reliability -- Dell vs. HP vs. Lenovo

I'm looking for a workstation to replace my XP machine. (yeah, I know, I should have done this a while ago -- but I don't think I'm the only procrastinator!) Anyhow, I need something fast, high end i7 or low end Xeon, lots of RAM, RAID SSD's, etc. In addition to trading, I use it to do...

    German Bond Yield Data?

I'm looking for either free or low-cost daily yield data on German 10-year government bonds. Not for a specific bond, but rather a curve-derived yield for a hypothetical 10-year bond, much like the US Treasury publishes every day. I need to find the yield data going back 10 years. I was...

IB symbol for Euro FX contract?

Thanks, that did the trick. And I agree about customer service vs ET. Unfortunately, I thought of that right after I made my post!

IB symbol for Euro FX contract?

I assume that I can trade the CME Globex full-size EUR/USD contract on IB, but I'm having trouble finding it. With other brokers, the symbol is usually EC, or sometimes 6E, but neither of those seems to pull up anything on IB. Either I'm missing something, or it's just too late in the day...

How do you do this at IB?

This is a relatively simple question, but I'm having a hard time deciphering the IB manual. Here's what I want to do: at a specified time tonight I will be away from my computer, so I now want to enter a market order to buy a security at that time. That's a piece of cake, done it many times...

Determining optimal # of contracts to buy when daytrading emini S&P 500

There's been some good advice on this thread, if you disregard the loonies. But what I would recommend is that you get yourself a copy of Market System Analyzer from adaptrade.com, and put in your historical trade data. You will be able to analyze the results a gazillion different ways, and...

Settlement data and trading US, CL, GC

TraDaToR, thanks for the reply. The thread that you linked to turned up one possible source that had minute-by-minute futures data at a reasonable price, Pi Trading. Unfortunately, they didn't have the CL, but did have the US and GC contracts. So that's an option to keep in mind. Right now...

Settlement data and trading US, CL, GC

If I understand what you're saying, I've thought about that. Since the current data is available from CME, maintaining it going forward would be no problem. Going backwards a few years would mean some work, but it's doable. ANF Futures sells minute-by-minute futures data for a few contracts...

Settlement data and trading US, CL, GC

Thanks. What I really need is a data vendor that supplies true OHLC data for futures, instead of OHLSettle data. Anyone know of one?

Settlement data and trading US, CL, GC

Not sure I follow that. What I'm talking about is how to handle data that provides a daily settlement price instead of a close price, and where the trading day extends beyond the time the daily settlement price is set.
