Anyone here pass Level I of the CFA Exam?

Against the advise of some of the people on the forums, I took and passed L1 and L2. Both were very tough, and i'm sure L3 will be no different. I spent a considerable amount of time preparing, and while that was no fun, the joy of realizing you passed makes the sacrifice worth it....hopefully...

Career Advise Needed...Which Avenue to Take?

I've spent the last two years working at a small prop trading firm, using the firms own trading strategies. The trading taught to me is primarily a combo of program trading along w/ short term momentum scalps and reading/interpreting the L2 box. After two years, I've had a good measure of...

    series 6 exam/take a prep course?

Those designations are basically worthless...I'm assuming your getting into the financial planning/insurance end of the business (which i left a little over a year ago). In that business, there are only a few designations that are worthwhile....CFP, CFA, and ChFC. It's no surprise that these...

    series 6 exam/take a prep course?

I took both the Series 6 & 7.....though there is alot of overlapping info, you still have to sit for the entire series 7 regardless of whether you passed your 6 or not. As for whether the prep course is worthwhile, I have no idea, but I'd imagine you'd probably need more than 3 days to study...

    CFA - Is it Worthwhile?

ttt....thought I'd resurrect this thread for any additional input. I haven't started anything, but I'd like to add a designation or credential to the resume "just in case". Anyone have any input, experience as a CFA, and/or whether it's helped to propel your career?

What is consider a good deal?

I'm curious too...I'm pay $5 (plus ECN fees, Nasdaq and Securities taxes) per thousand shares w/ a 70% payout..is this fair? I'm also using 100% of their capital.

    Series 7 Shortage?

I actually already have a trading position....I've been trading at a prop firm for about 1.5 years and looking to start trading my own capital next month. I've been able to put up decent numbers w/ about $200K (4 to-1 margin), so about 50K should be adequate, but would eventually like to get...

    Milton Friedman dies

The man was a genius, and a warrior for freedom. I saw his interview w/ Charlie Rose last year....even at his age, the guy was sharp at a tack. Freedom loving people will miss you.

Is 27 too old to join Swift Trade?

If you don't have any major expenses, and can afford to live w/out a salary (as my experience at a prop firm), your not too old at all. The reason most of the guys at prop firms are young is b/c they are the only ones who can afford not getting paid for 6-12 months. The only older guys who...

    Series 7 Shortage?

I was bored the yesterday and decided to update my online Monster resume to include the fact that I have my series 7 license. I get home from work and have 8 messages, all from recruiters or brokerage firms looking asking me to come in for interviews. This is a 2 year old resume that hasn't...

What do you pay for arca, inet book?

Since the nasdaq ECN consolidation, Total view doesn't seem worth it anymore, as most MM'er will have islds accompanying them on the L2 box (w/ the exception of UBSS for whatever reason). I set my L2 box up using depth of book, so if a MM'er is chiseling or covering himself up, I can still...

    CFA - Is it Worthwhile?

You post really sums up the essence of my question.....Is it worthwhile in relation to the amount of work and time required to receive it. It would be a shame and a devote valuable time to study (500 hours or more total), pay the test fees, and endure the stress and pressure of having to pass...

    CFA - Is it Worthwhile?

Good Post MadBulgarian I think I already fit the profile of "Category A"....Used the old trader adage "churn until you learn" (hence my tag), until i became consistent. My goal, as i'm sure most here w/ any ambition, is to go beyond where I'm at. If it takes a CFA, MBA, or any other...

    CFA - Is it Worthwhile?

After a year and a half as a prop trader, I'm considering possibly going to back to school or adding a designation (or 2) in order to land a shot at one of the larger hedge funds. My question is.....Will having the CFA designation truly help my chances of landing that big interview? For the...

    Breaking Into Hedge Fund Business?

Hey guys, great forum!! I'm new but have already learned quite a bit digging through the archives...and picked up some of the books recommended on the site. Unlike many people in the business, I'm not (yet) interested in starting my own fund, but finding a job trading, clerking, or assisting...
