    Iron Butterflies

I know I'll never find the "holy grail" in trading but I can stick to strategies that are more likely to turn a profit rather than those that aren't. I know you were just joking by the way...are were you?

    Iron Butterflies

That quote right there, is more than enough for me to look the other way and leave the flies on the side. I'm not interested in losing any money :-) Thanks for the feedback.

    Iron Butterflies

Does anyone trade this strategy? It seems like it gives a pretty good credit as opposed to the Iron Condor. I'm just curious about the experiences some of you have had if you traded these. The trade is: Long OTM Call Short ATM CALL Short ATM Put Long OTM Put

Any advice for my poorly designed options trading strategy

That is exactly what happened to me a couple of times. Right now I'm strictly trading vertical spreads so I only have one side to worry about. Commissions are a lot less obviously. After I rebuild some capital, I may trade IC's again but that's at least six to eight months out.

Any advice for my poorly designed options trading strategy

This will NOT be a grand revelation to any of you but it was to me. :D For a couple of years, I've been trading and have done pretty good. But there are times when a trade will move against me, closer to my short strikes and I"ll just sit there hoping it will come back down. And I guess you...

    In the money Calendar Spread

I've been running a few calendars in virtual trading and seem to be getting the hang of it a little bit. The problem is I'll pick a PUT spread and then the stock rises so my long puts lose value and I'm like "oops! don't want to do that". Then I'll choose a call spread and the opposite...

    In the money Calendar Spread

Eliot, how have you been making out with the calendars besides the recent price drop in oil?

    In the money Calendar Spread

I see. Thanks for your help. My next question is how likely is it that I would be assigned early on something like that? The reason I'm asking is because I've never sold an option that was already in the money. I have sold OTM options that end up in the money though. Would I be assigned if...

    In the money Calendar Spread

So in a scenario like I have, if I am assigned would that be a bad thing since I have a long option at the same strike? would I be losing money?

    In the money Calendar Spread

The term "synthetic equivalent" is not registering with me. What exactly does that mean? I see that term used quite often.

    In the money Calendar Spread

I am wanting some feedback on a calendar spread. Let's say that the underlying is at $50. If I bought a calendar spread like this: Short OCT $47.50Call Long NOV $47.50Call Net Debit of: .30 Does anyone see anything wrong with that? I mean the stock has been holding steady between...

    Suggested trading for a newbie

I trade a lot of vertical credit spreads. I have not used stop loss orders but want to start. Do you guys base your stop loss on the underlying moving or the price of the spread? For example, if I get .50 for the spread, would I set a stop loss order to exit the trade if the price of the...

    Calendars on Q's

I sell a lot of iron condors and have been very profitable with it. I've stayed mainly with SPYders lately though as I find that a lot safer than dealing with individual stocks. I've been burned a few times with Google and others like it. I guess you live and learn...mistakes hopefully not to...

    Calendars on Q's

or would you suggest on stocks that do not move too much? therefore IV wouldn't change, correct?

    Calendars on Q's

    Calendars on Q's

I understand your points. I don't know how I overlooked this strategy for over two years. It seems a lot easier to make money on this rather than directional trades.

    Calendars on Q's

Has anyone traded calendar spreads on the QQQQ's? I'm new to the Calendars but have been trading for a couple of years. It seems to me that the calendar spreads have much potential of reward. I'm not looking at the quotes right now but last night I was looking at this calendar on the q's...

    Looking for a mentor

The fact of the matter is that there is an element of truth to what you just said. I started with no mentor or tutor and have given back a total of $15K in losses. Thankfully, I have that under control now. I guess I was trigger happy and thought that I could be the first one to accomplish...
