Crypto civil war: Elon vs. Bitcoiners

If what someone wrote on Twitter is true ("Tesla loses money, SpaceX loses money and Elon lives on Government subsidies"), it would have little to do with bitcoin, but it would say something about the man nonetheless. I'd be careful picking Musk as an idol (or investing in his companies) even...

I wrote a bot and gave it 25k to trade

Thank you for your comment, Valery. I guess feelings of victory are relative hahaha. For example, right now I can't feel like I'm living a many trader's dream. Not having been able to profit from movements in the last couple of months, annoys me. I have gained and lost like 5k in days, more...

I wrote a bot and gave it 25k to trade

+++ Monthly update +++ I paused the bot, as the general index trend is sideways. Therefore, no change relative to the previous month. In the meantime, that is for two years now since I started this journey, my experiments with neural nets and statistical learning have continued. I think I'm...

I wrote a bot and gave it 25k to trade

+++ Monthly Update +++ February could have been a very good month, ended up being disappointing. The system was up almost 5k, then got whipsawed and lost everything. This is one of the moments when I feel I'm missing a complementing short strategy. Anyway, let's hold on and move on.

    Fully Automated Stocks Trading

Likely scenario: 1. You lose 10%. 2. You turn the strategy off, "for safety". 3. The strategy recovers 10%, but you can't profit from it because you disabled it. End results: you lost 10%. Whereas, if you had let it alone, you'd have lost nothing.

Thank you for your appreciation. Initially, I used Montecarlo analysis (see beginning of this thread), later I started to rely solely on backtests. I tested my last strategy over 13 years with good results, so I'm still using it. You can find the test results in the thread. To avoid...

Question on usability of autotrading program

See this thread/journal and decide for yourself (small capital, but it works): I wrote a bot and gave it 25k to trade

Also, focusing on avoiding volatility is probably what is keeping me from coming up with a profitable short strategy. All my current strategies are long side only.

The “automated vs. mechanical vs. discretionary” trading debate

(Successful) automated trading is not easy, but possible. And yes, it can be a lot of fun to watch your bot operating. As for the discretion part, in my case it is limited to pausing/resuming the strategies during periods of very high volatility (occurred two or three times in a year). The...

I wrote a bot and gave it 25k to trade

Hi @HobbyTrading, thank you for your remark. The actual results keep being almost identical as expected from the backtest. There have been quite a few swings in the equity curve, not visible from the monthly totals. As for any trend following system the drawdowns are not negligible, however in...

I wrote a bot and gave it 25k to trade

This is such an open ended question. It depends on many factors, for example can you code, or would you prefer to buy a pre-packaged solution, how much trading experience do you have. And most of all, how much time are you willing to invest in it. To me, it's pretty much the same as a second job.

IBUK to IBIE - what's going on?

Well, as I said I'll be really happy to know that I'm wrong. I wrote to IB customer service asking a direct question: is €20k the maximum compensation that can be expected in case of IBIE solvency problems? At no point did they give "no" for an answer. Their reply was on the line that IB is a...

IBUK to IBIE - what's going on?

I have still not gone into depth on this point, since only I trade futures short-term.

IBUK to IBIE - what's going on?

I'd be glad if I did. What you're talking about refers precisely to IBUK. IBIE is another story. IB customer service confirmed this.

IBUK to IBIE - what's going on?

The scariest thing in the transition from IBUK to IBIE is the reduced capital protection provided by the Irish Compensation Plan: just 20k€. So if you have 1M capital and IB goes bust (very unlikely but possible) you'll be compensated with up to 20K.

It's been some time since I had my base currency in EUR, so I may be wrong. Or things may have changed in the meantime, but I remember that if you set your base currency to anything than USD, you pay interest.

So you converted the base currency of some of your accounts to CAD? Wouldn't it be roughly the same as buying and holding some CAD in a USD account?

+++ Monthly update +++ Current unrealized P&L: $1805. I am concerned about the ongoing devaluation of USD versus EUR, as I live in Europe, but I have my IB account in $. I tried to think of a strategy to mitigate the risk of currency exposure, but could not find anything other than buying and...
