Call buyer turns $92M position into $477M in a month, unwinding the position as the index hits all-t

I made about 2300% in early 2020 on a gutshot. In Feb I saw there was some virus going around China and maybe got to the US. I found some weekly SPY puts for 13 cents and bought 10 contracts. Closed on Friday for around 3.00. I should have bought more but I hadn't traded options for years so I...

Options Education - Got a Website / Book / PDF You Like? Post It Up

Am reading Artemis' The Hawk And The Serpent. Good stuff. Thanks for posting. It's amazing how many people believe that stocks and bonds have a negative correlation.

Anyone seen or trade this strategy? Box with wings?

Yes, except for selling deep ITM calls on 2 year expiration, it just being box and the underlying being UVXY. Maybe the extra long call might have saved him.

Anyone seen or trade this strategy? Box with wings?

(It's been awhile since I posted anything here.) I was cleaning up my disk and ran across a file called "box.jpg". It's just a picture the looks to be two butterflies initially, a call fly just below current underlying price and a put fly just above. There is an embedded box in the middle. There...

    Tastytrade Top Dogs

These are valid criticisms of Tastytrade in general. I am asking specifically about their Top Dogs core positions. It would help if you had read the OP.

    Tastytrade Top Dogs

Anyone been watching Tastytrade Top Dogs? I was wondering what people thought about their Core Positions. Basically they say to buy a handful of negatively or non-correlated ETFs and sell covered calls at 30 deltas. They picked 5 - S&P500, Russell 2K, GLD, TLT and EEM (IIRC). They also say it...

Brokers that do LOO and OCA

Thanks, but wouldn't the broker have to do LOO orders? So far IB and Options House are the only ones I have found.

Brokers that do LOO and OCA

(Not sure if this is the right place to start this thread. It's been a while since I've looked in at ET.) What I want to do is enter a Limit-On-Open (LOO) sell order after hours, along with a bracket sell order. If the LOO executes then of course I want the bracket orders to cancel, otherwise...

    collecting premium / cashing out

I only read the first page so far, but you have to ask yourself what does "close the trade out" mean.

Things to consider before exercising my options??

How much will it cost you to exercise? ETA: Not sure about a private company, but exercising a publicly traded stock is a taxable event. You are taxed on the difference between you cost basis and the market value when you exercise.

Were you doing high probability/high risk/low reward spreads? (BTW, what happened to HoCo?)

Put options signaling crash Next month

I don't know what the typical open interest is, but is definitely not as low as a few hundred. October is crash month, maybe this is a normal amount.

Getting assigned put but with not enough cash to purchase

These questions are not that tricky but they are getting a bit tedious. If you are dumb enough not to close out your position at expiration your short put will cause you to buy a stock worth 172 for the price of 174. Your long will expire worthless and not be exercised. If you don't have the...

Till what time on expiration is feasible to close small position?

Don't some borkers charge a fee to cancel and replace orders?

    SPY dividends. Practical advice needed

If you hold long ITM puts into expiration they will be exercised and you will sell shares out of your account. If you don't own any shares you will be short and liable for paying the divvy. I'm not sure of the timing though. Technically the expiration/exercise happens on Saturday and as was...

Getting assigned put but with not enough cash to purchase

The main thing to consider is that brokers will not be left holding the bag, they will do whatever they can to protect themselves first.

Getting assigned put but with not enough cash to purchase

Yeah, I was assuming at expiration. Even so, don't early exercises get assigned after market close?

    Premiums in selling covered calls

Getting assigned put but with not enough cash to purchase

Assignments are made over the weekend after the market closes. If you only had 20% of the cash to buy your broker would most likely sell it at market price at the open on Monday. If it drops so much that 20% wouldn't cover it then the broker would start selling other assets. If still not covered...
