    Al Brook's Trading Room

I see a lot of different opinions here. It is obvious that many of the negative points of view come from system traders, so they are asking system-type questions and expecting system-type answers. I spent probably a year and a half in Al's trading room. He is not a systems trader. He is...

More Bad News for the Nasdaq tomorrow .... this is not good !

Perhaps he is trading a retirement account and cannot short. The government, in all its typical wisdom, has decided it is too risky to use retirement funds to borrow against for margin. So the solution is to use even more risky choices such as options and futures.

Multiple strategy testing in paper IB accounts

Thanks. I didn't know that. But the reason I have 3 different accounts through NT is not in order to trade different sims. For security reasons I feel it is better to have more that one account. As long as I have multiple accounts, it makes sense to separate different objectives by brokerage...

RTY vs ES for trending strategies

Thanks for the comment. Since the strategy involved Renko bars, it may be that the more chop with the ES showed up as more whipsaws. A larger brick size could solve this, but with more risk. I'll check it out with some backtesting.

    Good point. Thanks.

RTY vs ES for trending strategies

Sorry- my bad. I am using 12-tick Renkos with the Ichimoku Cloud for trends. Reversals are 2:1, or 24 ticks. For trading ranges I am using the Lizard Trader Auction bars with 5 minute trading timeframe and 60-minute higher timeframe, along with Session Pivots. Thanks for the reply.

RTY vs ES for trending strategies

I have been using the ES to create strategies for both trending and sideways markets. I have never really considered the RTY, but on first look the RTY appears to trend better than the ES, at least in the current market environment. Does anyone feel the RTY has advantages for trending...

trading is not scary to me

God does not predict the future. He DETERMINES the future. I alway try to keep that in mind in all my activities.

trading is not scary to me

I agree. I spent over a year following AL Brooks in his trading room (which, by the way, I just discovered today that he has cut back to 4 days per week). I learned so much about price action that it has become a major part of my semi-automated approach to trading, especially in the type of...

What's the emotional price of trading current markets?

I have tried that, but it seems that automated systems will occasionally take bad trades, like selling near the bottom of a trading range. Maybe the successful trades will make up for these losses, but I think I can get fewer draw downs by manually selecting the trades, or at least turning off...

What's the emotional price of trading current markets?

That is why I've decided that semi-automated trading is the answer for me. I still have to decide whether to take the trade, but my setups are already defined and identified. Then I only have to worry about trade management, which is challenge enough for me. Otherwise there was too much to think...

I am back again... Crystal ball here.... Take it or leave it. Spy will..

True. Actually, I tend to do better in sideways markets. In trends I get nervous about how much longer the move will last and I jump out too soon. Then I have trouble jumping back in. In trading ranges it is more clear to me where to enter, and in trading ranges you are SUPPOSED to get out...

ES Strategies: Filter and leave running or be selective?

Markets tend to have innertia. Sideways markets tend to continue sideways, which is the most common state. But trending markets tend to continue trending for a while. But that is the crux of my question. If "obviously, you wouldn't want to run both at the same time", how do you know when to run...

ES Strategies: Filter and leave running or be selective?

In automated daytrading strategy design, since no one strategy will work in all market types, do you design strategies to work in trending markets, filter out chop, and let them run all the time, or do you design strategies to only run under ideal conditions and try to only run them when you...

How can you even claim that technicals matter?

I am using a swing trading system. My winners are bigger than my loosers. I have had profitable days with only 33% right calls.

Multiple strategy testing in paper IB accounts

I haven't done this before, but I am told by NinjaTrader that you can open multiple sim accounts. I started using NinjaTrader because I can trade my IB account through the API. Now I have the multi broker license for 3 different accounts, all through NT. I test one strategy on the IB paper...

Passing the computer snappy scalps only

What is your profit target on each scalp? Looks like about 2 ticks? And where do you set your stop loss? It seem that trading for such small profits, even scalping, would require about 90% accuracy to make up for an inevitable larger loss. Not questioning your results, just wondering.
